The workshops aim to produce “arty” nesting boxes that will be placed throughout the valley on walking trails and cycle routes.
Two artists will work with each class of students on the design and decoration of the nesting boxes, once the initial sketches have been produced the students will transfer them to the boxes using Uni Posca paint markers, creating a bright and vibrant new home for local Birds!
The ultimate aim of the project is to encourage the families and friends of the students to go out and find the nesting boxes; discover the footpaths and wildlife on their doorstep and reconnect communities with the local landscape. The project aims to embed the use of these trails and walking routes as part of their leisure activities.
The first workshop took place at Highwoods Primary in Mexborough on the 16th of March, working with 27 pupils from year 4. Rich, one of the artists from Spearfish said “They produced some fantastic work and are all excited about seeing their nesting boxes out on the trails”.
